Toys
What did they play with?
Children played tag, hide and seek, tug of war, dolls, balls.
What were there toys made out of? The balls that they played with were made out of a rock and they wrapped that in yarn. Their jumprope was made out of tree vines, and they grew they learned how to carve wood with a knife so they made themselves dolls and whistles. Some doll were made out of leftover corn husks.
Jobs
Do you know what jobs kids had and how much they helped their parents?
One of the kids jobs were going to the woods to gather nuts and berries for food. They also shouted at crows so they don't eat the crops and if the children did not to that they wouldn't have much crops to eat. As children grew they learned to hunt, cut wood and, make cloths. Kids also fed the chickens, milked the cows, gathered eggs, picked up buffalo chips and gathered vegetables. Since some boys are older and stronger they helped their father cut wood, and tend the crops. Girls on the other hand still had many more important jobs they helped with cooking and caring for their younger siblings and without cooking and caring their family would die.

School Day
Lunch
Kids didn't have many food choices but they went with what they had. Some kids had:
-Cold pancakes
-Homemade bread with syrup lard or butter
-Jelly or jam sandwiches
-Meat sandwiches
-Dried meat/Jerky
-Hard boiled eggs
- Fruits and veggie's
- Baked things like muffins, cookies, pies, and cakes.
As you can see we also eat these things but we have more options to chose from now.

In School
When they get to school the teacher rings the bell and the kids would line up in two lines one for girls and one for boys from shortest to tallest to enter the class. Then on a shelf they put their lunch pails.
-First they sing a song or a prayer
-Then they do math, reading, writhing, penmanship, and arithmetic
-Lunch/Recess
-More lessons
-Dismissal.
As you can see their day was really similar to our day but they didn't have the latest technology or really any technology in their classrooms so we should be really grateful. Think about not having computers, smart board or Elmo's.
